Abstract

Ramon d’Abadal is best known for the books and articles he wrote on the history of the 9th and 10th centuries, the period of Catalonia’s origins. Among Abadal’s works, the one that best shows the results of his research into this subject is El primers comtes catalans, first published in 1958 and reprinted many times. It is a book of political history, his favorite genre. In this book, Abadal explains the transition from Carolingian rule to county independence, in other words, the foundations of the feudal principality of Barcelona, which he considers essential in the formation of Catalonia.
