The treatment of migration in the border contexts of the United States-Mexico and Ceuta and Melilla by the Spanish press Authors Alexander Amado Acedo Institut d'Estudis Catalans Juan Manuel Trillo Santamaría Universidade de Santiago de Compostela Valerià Paül Carril Universidade de Santiago de Compostela Keywords: Borders, immigration, press, narratives, otherness. Abstract The purpose of this paper is to offer an analysis of the Spanish press regarding the two studied border contexts: The United States-Mexico and Spain-Morocco, specifically, Ceuta and Melilla. Through the study of the content used by the observed communication media, two major issues are approached: the identification of discursive strategies of stigmatization of the migrant at the border and the different narratives between both case studies. The results show that the Spanish media offer a more negative image of the migrant in the Spanish-Moroccan border than in the Mexican-American context. Downloads Download data is not yet available.
