Simple urban designs from the old town of Sarrià (Barcelona), 1842-1921 Authors Jesús Burgueño Departament de Geografia i Sociologia Universitat de Lleida Keywords: urbanism, cartography, Barcelona, architects. Abstract The city is often not built from large operations of expansion done by municipalities, but by the accumulation of individual development initiatives. The rich archive collection of the old town of Sarrià (merged Barcelona in 1922) allows to follow in detail the urbanization process, mainly in the hands of landowners. Most files contain maps, usually quite simple plans, but often of great importance to explain the genesis of the current street network. We present here the main urban files located. We identify the municipal architects who oversee the particular proposals of urban development and also made the plans promoted by the City. Keywords: urbanism, cartography, Barcelona, architects.
