Abstract

The Plano topográfico de San Vicente de Sarriá edited in 1901 to 1:6,000, was made by the military engineer Artur Vallhonrat (1859-1918) as a basis for a new urban development plan, finally undone. It’s an exceptional cartographical piece, because of its careful realization, the detailed representation of relief (2 m of equidistance) and the inclusion of cadastral information. It represents the entire old municipal district of Sarrià, the last town added to the city of Barcelona, in 1921. This author use the previous work made up by the architect of this municipality, Francesc Mariné (1845-1902), updating and extending the mapped surface. From 1883 to 1886, Mariné drew a great topographic map, also with a plan of streets’ alignments, for more than half of the municipal district, to 1:2.000 scale and with contour lines each 2 meters. He also sketched 35 urban maps to 1:300. Therefore, Vallhonrat’s map is closely linked to that of Mariné.
