La Transgènesi en els animals de producció i el seu efecte sobre l'alimentació i la salut Authors Maria Teresa Paramio Nieto Dolors Izquierdo Abstract Transgenic allows increasing and changing the conventional roles of farm animals. To the meat, the milk and the eggs is added the production of biopharmaceutical goods obtained in milk, egg white and serum. The first transgenic sheep, goat, pig and rabbit were described at 1985. Nowadays, the methodologies used are inefficiently and costly. These are: a) pronuclear microinjection, b) sperm mediated DNA transfer, c) DNA transfer using viral vectors and d) transgenic somatic nuclear transfer. The main objectives search by transgenic livestock are: a) improve animal production, b) novel foods with additional benefits for human health, c) reduction of farm animal contamination, d) farm animals as bioreactors of pharmacological proteins. At present, marketing of transgenic animal products has not been allowed. As regulatory guidelines are not completely developed and because of the weak acceptance of transgenic products by population, these researches subjects has been reduced.
