Abstract

Small-scale turbulence is ubiquitous in the ocean. It afects interactions of planktonic organisms with the surrounding medium and among each other in a number of ways, with results visible at the system level. A series of trends, both climatic and otherwise, are forseen to continue at a global scale, which may vary the frequency of events with turbulence peaks and/or the average intensity of turbulence. In this paper I give a few glimpses on how these changes may affect the structure and dynamics of plankton and the functioning of the planktonic system.
