Abstract

History has systematically silenced women’s contributions to science. Indeed, many women’s contributions and authorships are still unrecognized today. In this essay we review various biographies of pioneering women scientists who have made key contributions to the progress of contemporary medicine and biology. Their recognition is essential to achieve a more equitable science. This is the only way that we will be able to do away with the inequalities which are still present in academia and to create societies free of gender barriers.
