Abstract

Although in modern Western societies the realms of everyday life, such as work, family and school, seem increasingly egalitarian, it is still possible to see that they are organised on the basis of boundaries that separate men and women. In this respect, many of the differences that have marked the development of modern consumption have already been weakened and transformed. However, this does not mean that moral and social penalties applied to consumers according to their gender identity have disappeared, especially when it comes to fashion consumption. This paper provides theoretical insights into practices where policies on standardisation merge with policies on difference.
