Abstract The Xylella fastidiosa bacteria is causing major damage worldwide to various crops such as grapes, citrus, olive trees and ornamental plants. The first record of Xylella fastidiosa in Europe was in 2013 in southern Italy (Puglia region), where it infected olives trees. The subspecies detected in Italy was pauca. In 2015 it was found on the island of Corsica, affecting the ornamental plant Polygala myrtifolia. The subspecies detected there is multiplex. Later, the same subspecies was detected on the Côte d’Azur (France).
