The Professional Selection Courses in Logroño during the Second Spanish Republic: An Approach to the Sources

Abstract

This article presents the development of teacher training in Logroño during the Second Republic and, more specifically, the process of selection of teachers to enter the civil service. Firstly, it contextualises initial teacher training in Spain and La Rioja during this period, which saw the merger of teacher training colleges, giving rise to the Logroño Primary Teacher Training College. An initial survey will make it possible to check whether there is information on the professional selection courses and what sources of primary and secondary documentation exist. The purpose of this preliminary approach is to check if it is possible to carry out an in-depth research on this subject in the province of Logroño. The funds traced come from several entities and documents: the General Archive of the University of La Rioja, the Archive of the University of Zaragoza, the Provincial Historical Archive of La Rioja, the Virtual Library of Historical Press and a thesis work published on education in this period in the context of La Rioja.
