Abstract

Since the 1980s, Italy has born witness to a rich season of renewal of the themes and methods of school and educational historiography, paving the way for theoretical reflection and teaching practices on the set of material culture of school and education, defined as an authentic historical and educational heritage. This contribution describes the some of the school and education museums in Italy as a resource for research and teaching, and then focuses attention on innovative university teacher training experiences undertaken, even where specific school museums are not yet present.
