Gaston Quénioux and the reform in the teaching of drawing in the early twentieth century in France Authors Renaud d’Enfert Université de Picardie Jules Verne (Amiens, França) Keywords: Drawing Teaching, Intuitive Method, Geometric Method, Primary Education, Secondary Education, France, Reform. Abstract This article examines in detail the role of Gaston Quénioux (1864-1951) in the design and implementation of the French reform in the teaching of drawing in 1909. This reform replaced the «geometric method», used since the 1880s, by the «intuitive method», which took the observation of nature as a starting point. This research shows how this renowned teacher of drawing became the leader of this important reform in the early 20th century. He obtained widespread support from the pedagogical, artistic and political environment of his time; although his contribution did not escape from divisions among teachers.Key words: Drawing Teaching, Intuitive Method, Geometric Method, Primary Education, Secondary Education, France, Reform.
