Abstract

During his second stay in Paris (1297-1299), Ramon Llull wrote a series of works in which he defines a new way of proceeding for diverse sciences. In this context, the present study aims to analyse the reasons why Llull wrote these works during this specific period, as well as the objective he aimed to achieve with them. The analysis is divided into two parts: in the first, an analysis is performed of the relationship between Ramon Llull and the University of Paris and the social, economic and intellectual changes that were produced therein in the decades from 1270 to 1290; in the second, the structure and content of Llull’s proposal are analysed. The conclusion this analysis aims to reach is, as far as possible, to show that it was the circumstances that took place in the 1290s that led this author to propose a modification of arts studies curricula that was based on the suppression of ancient philosophy and its replacement with a truly Christian system.
