Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • Articles must be original and preferably written in Catalan; although articles received in other languages will also be admitted providing their interest is justified. The board reserves the right to ask the authors for the translation of articles that are not submitted in Catalan for their publication.
  • Articles must be submitted electronically (preferably in MS Word for PC or MAC).
  • The URLs have been provided for references wherever possible.
  • The font must be Times New Roman size 12, and the text must be made up of one and a half line spacing. If there are figures, graphs or tables, these shall be presented numbered consecutively in separate files and the place where they are to be included in the layout process must be indicated in the text.
  • The text complies with the bibliographic and style requirements set out in the section «Author Guidelines» on the page «About the journal».
  • For submissions to peer reviewed sections, the instructions of the section «How to ensure a blind review» have been followed.
  • Deliver together with the original article, the anonymized article and a document with the corresponding photographs and image captions.

Author Guidelines

1. Articles must be original and preferably written in Catalan; although articles received in other languages will be admitted providing their interest is justified. The board reserves the right to ask the authors for the translation of articles that are not submitted in Catalan for their publication.

2. Articles must be submitted electronically (preferably in MS Word for PC or MAC).

3. The font must be Times size 12, and the text shall be made up of one and a half line spacing.

4. Length of articles must not be shorter than ten pages or longer than twenty-five (thirty lines of seventy spaces). All sheets must be numbered consecutively.

5. Notes must be numbered consecutively as footnotes. For the bibliographic references of the footnotes, the following criteria must be followed.

Books must be cited:

Surname, [Please note, in small caps not uppercase] Unabbreviated name; Surname; Unabbreviated name; Surname, Unabbreviated name. Title of the monograph: Subtitle of the monograph. Edition number. Place of publication-1: Publisher-1; Place of publication-2: Publisher-2, year. Number of volumes. Number of pages. (Name of the Collection, Name of the Sub-collection; number within the collection or subseries) [Further information].

Articles in periodicals must be cited:

Surname, [Please note, in small caps not uppercase], Unabbreviated name; Surname, Unabbreviated name, Surname, Unabbreviated name. «Title of the serial publication», Title of the Periodic Publication [Place of Publication-1; Place of Publication-2], volume number, issue number (day month year), number of pages where this part appears. [Further information]

6. If there are figures, graphs or tables, these shall be presented numbered consecutively on separate sheets and the place where they are to be included in the layout process must be indicated in the text. Photographs, drawings and images must be submitted as a photographic reproduction or in digital format (JPEG or TIFF) at 300dpi (minimum).

7. Titles of the sections must be in small caps and numbered.

8. Some data of the author(s)’ CV must be attached, 4 lines at most, which will include: institution they belong to and e-mail address.

9. The title in the original language of writing and its translation into English must appear at the beginning of the article. An abstract must also be included, fifteen lines at most, and the corresponding key words, in Catalan, Spanish and English.

10. With a view to indexing in different databases, you are asked to follow the Catalan Education Thesaurus [Thesaurus català d’educació].

11. In order to ensure the quality of the papers that are published, the Editorial Board will anonymously send the articles to specialists, who will recommend whether an article should be published immediately, needs revision, or is rejected. Authors will be informed of their paper’s acceptance. If the paper requires revising, the authors will be sent the written comments of the specialists who have reviewed it.

These data will be incorporated to a processing controlled by IEC for the purpose of managing this publication. The authors’ data will be used solely for managing the publication of the journal Educació i Història: Revista d'Història de l'Educació and they will not be transferred to third parties nor will transfers be made to third countries or to international organisations. Once the journal has been published, these data will be stored as part of the historical record of authors. Authors may exercise the rights of access, rectification, erasure, objection, restriction of processing and portability by addressing themselves in writing to Institut d’Estudis Catalans (Carrer del Carme, 47, 08001 Barcelona, Spain) or by sending an e-mail to the address dades.personals@iec.cat, in which the publication in question should be specified.
