Abstract

In order to present the least well known and the most external source of Lo somni (the introduction to Book VIII of the De casibus virorum illustrium de Boccaccio), a summary is provided of a reading of the dialogue based on the sources, a reading which clarifies the structure of the work and makes it possible to recognize that influence. This source reveals Lo somni with the despairing end of the last book as a work of moral denunciation. In Metges humanistic approach we can appreciate the coherence of his work, along with its contribution to the genre and significance for the humanist movement as a disciple and at the same time corrector of the great authors of the thirteenth century.
