Polifonía de las emociones : estudio pragmático sobre la función emotiva de las partículas modales en castellano, catalán y rumano

Abstract

The present article, which falls within the field of pragmalinguistics of the emotions, studies the polyphonic and emotive function of modal particles in Castilian, Catalan and Romanian. The idea is to show that one of the essential functions of modal particles is the manifestation and communication of emotional states, and that the emotions expressed by the speaker through the use of these forms is related to their polyphony. The thesis advanced runs contrary to the present tendency to consider modal particles as mere metapragmatic indicators devoid of emotive function and the general tendency to dissociate linguistic inquiry from the study of emotive phenomena.
