Abstract

This article covers the central period of the Peninsular War in Catalonia and refers to the political evolution of the Principality from the rise of the Marquis de Campoverde to the Captaincy General in January 1811 and up to the end of this year. The following are covered, among other things: the drive of radical political groups (which had already put Campoverde in power) and their attempt to influence the Catalan government from within the Superior Board, the ideological confrontation between the regular army and armed patriotic groups, the disorder in the country after the loss of Tarragona, and the fear of a revolution by moderate sectors.
