Abstract

The study of some hitherto unknown Catalan documents reveal that the trip to Spain made by the Second Marquis of Pescara, Ferdinando Francesco dAvalos (1523), apart from its political nature, was used to commission a work of art to some of Barcelonas most renowned Renaissance artists. The commission was undertaken through the intermediary Bernat Almugaver, provost of the cathedral of Manresa, and Joan Boscàs first cousin, a writer known mainly for having translated Il Cortigiano by Baldassarre Castiglione into Spanish.
