Commemorating the centenary of the birth of Jaume Vicens i Vives (1910-1960) has involved a new historiographical review of his scientific work and has reappraised his role as one of the most important renovators of Spanish historiography of the 20th century. This article presents the historiographical evolution of Vicens, from positivism to the school of the Annales, the influence on the academic world of Vicenss historiographical renovation promoted in the 1950s and the different appraisals made by historiography of his work over the fifty years since his death.
