Abstract

«Because the historian is within history...» A look at the life and work of Pierre Vilar. Pierre Vilars conception of history made him particularly aware of the need to place the historians work within specific historical contexts, defined by a specific space and time in which the historian lived and in which his work was conceived and written. Based on this idea, which a mature Pierre Vilar developed in the introduction to his doctoral thesis, this work attempts to recreate the university ambience of France in the 1920s to understand the originality and singularity of Pierre Vilars training as a historian, a process in which an initial disappointment regarding the dominant historiographical movements and the decision to carry out geographical research on Catalonia were very important.
