Abstract

The late Francoism, between the Organic Law of the State (1969) and the dictator’s death (1975) were the years of the decline of the dictatorship, the recovery of opposition forces and economic development. The ideological justification of the regime had collapsed, but its repressive apparatus remained intact. This explains the nature of the transition that would transform a rigid dictatorship into a semblance of formal democracy.
