Abstract An analysis of the evolution of the communist press in the Balearic Islands from its origins to the Francoist period. The precariousness of technical and human resources and the frequent need for secrecy created huge difficulties for the newspapers published by the Spanish Communist Party in terms of achieving regular publication and relevant social impact. In any case, these publications served as channel for training and provided the Balearic communist movement with internal cohesion during its most difficult times. Keywords: Communism, Second Spanish Republic, Spanish Civil War, anti-Francoism, underground press, dictatorship.
