Abstract

This article analyses the developments occurring among the foremost castles and fortifications on the plain of Urgellet around 1200, within a context of extreme feudal violence that led to the defensive systems of this area being redefined. These transformations, similar to the concept of incastellamento or encastellation coined by Pierre Toubert, have had a lasting effect on the official structures and settlements of the area up to the present day.
