Abstract

The object of this paper is the newspaper La Publicitat seen through a photojournalistic point of view. The objective is to shed light into an aspect that has never been analyzed before. From a perspective of the history of photography and press in Catalonia, two specific moments will be addressed: the first, between 1928 and 1930, around the Universal Exhibition; the second, between 1936 and 1939 during the Spanish Civil War. The body of the analysis are the issues of this newspaper archived in the Arxiu Històric de la Ciutat de Barcelona. Although La Publicitat is not a graphic newspaper, during the periods mentioned above the number of images increased. The professionals who worked in the newspaper were Gabriel Casas and Pablo Luis Torrents, two essential figures of the Catalan photojournalism in the 1920s and 1930s.
