Abstract

This article reviews the historiographic works that have made use of agricultural heritage documents for research in the last fifty years in Catalonia. The first section emphasises the need to examine the reasons why peasants kept family and heritage documents in their households. An analysis of the uses of these documents then follows; namely a study of how assets have been created, of the agricultural management and production and also of the accounts, which helps us to study the different markets farms dealt with: namely production, credit and labour. Written culture and literacy, together with memoirs, form the last block of the article.
