Abstract

This article deals with the career and the contributions made by Hilari Raguer to the history of the Republic and the Spanish Civil war, as well as the history of the Catholic Church, ranging from his doctoral thesis, the first exhaustive research into the Catalan Christian Democrat party (UDC); biographies of General Batet and Manuel Carrasco, both executed by Franco during the conflict, to the role played by the Church in the war and dissonant voices within in, such as Cardenal Vidal i Barraquer. His research has been crucial to our understanding of these historical events in all their dimensions.
