Abstract

The field of communication is currently in a process of consolidation in Spain. Recent studies on academic papers published in specialised Spanish communication journals, however, have revealed a perturbing methodological weakness in those papers and their results. Inasmuch as the schools of communication are the primary (but not the only) places where the communication professionals and researchers of the future are trained, one may only ponder over the way in which these educational institutions present and teach the communication research process. Through a study of the academic field of communication in Spain generally, and specifically through a study of teaching guides, this paper approaches the objectivity and scientific rigour of the research methodologies which are taught, considering the education that journalism undergraduates receive in this sphere.
