Abstract

The objective of this article is to highlight the use ofmath conversation in class to contribute to the improvement of children's learning ofmathematics in primary education. On the one hand, it explains the theoretical framework from a social constructivist perspective that justifies it; and, on the other, it analyzes a particular mathematical activity in which conversation plays a central role. It presents several guidelines for observing math conversation in the classroom,which becomes a useful tool for analyzing the development of themathematical learning process of children and themanagement of the class by the teacher.
