Abstract

Insects, with their biodiversity, are one of the most important components of ecosystems due to their relationship with vegetation and food webs. The biodiversity of insects in Catalonia is one of the largest in Europe in relation to the extension of the territory. Nevertheless, despite the approval in 2022 of the Catalogue of Threatened Fauna of Catalonia, which covers the protection and conservation of 155 species of insects, actions need to be urgently implemented to prevent the decline of their biodiversity. In this study, the importance of habitat preservation, climate change and insects as pollinators is outlined. We also discuss the negative repercussions that invasive species have. Looking to the future, the most important factors to be taken into account for the preservation of insect biodiversity are the conservation of habitats, educational outreach and environmental education.
