Francesc Aragó’s experiments: An essential factor in the development of Einstein’s relativity theory Authors Carles Paul Recarens DOI: 10.2436/20.2004.01.56 Keywords: Francesc Aragó, Albert Einstein, Michael Faraday, Aragó disk, Faraday disk, stellar aberration, luminiferous ether. Abstract The 20th century was characterized by the achievement of great scientific and technical advances. Without a doubt, it all began in 1905 with Albert Einstein’s articles on the theory of relativity, Brownian motion, the photoelectric effect and the relationship between mass and energy. In this paper, the reader is invited to delve into the origins of relativity’s development in Einstein’s mind, as we demonstrate that these origins have a common denominator, the scientist Francesc Aragó, who designed, built, and conducted crucial experiments in the 1800s that are essential to an understanding of the progress of the 20th century.
