Abstract

The Barcelona ZeroG Challenge is a unique international contest aimed at motivating university students to conduct research in zero gravity using an aerobatic aircraft to conduct experiments in parabolic flight. More than fifty students have already flown their experiments in previous educational campaigns. Vera Gravitas, an all-female group of Colombian student engineers from the University of Antioquia (Medellín) were the winning team of the 2021-2022 challenge and were invited to present their experiment in parabolic flight in Barcelona in the fall of 2022. Challenge-based learning (CBL) can serve as a framework for educational and outreach initiatives that inspire students in ways that go beyond the traditional syllabus taught at colleges and universities. Here we introduce the participation experience of students from the university of Antioquia as a successful challengebased learning case. Self-learning, the application of concepts to address complex issues, and the enhancement of oral and written communication skills are just a few of the benefits of this project.
