Els Polímers estructurals i la indústria aeroespacial: una història per concloure Authors Jaime de Andrés Llopis Abstract From the first experimental flying machines of the Wright brothers to the actual suborbital flights, the two key problems in the progress of aviation have been the available power and the materials used to build the cells. This second point implies that chemistry, and in particular macromolecular chemistry, has played a prominent role in many of the fundamental advances in this field. In this article we will review this progress from the first wing coatings to the state of the art composite materials for structural applications in aircrafts, introducing some final reflections about the large amount of work that is still pending in this field.
