Abstract

One of the goals of supramolecular chemistry is to artificially reproduce the behavior of enzymes and other proteins. A great number of synthetic receptors with inner cavities of varied sizes and shapes have been developed in recent decades, but limited success has been achieved in reproducing the mechanisms of enzymatic catalysis. Cavitands — macromolecules with an aromatic cavity and unusual conformational properties — appear as ideal candidates for the development of complex bioinspired catalysis.
