Electrides. Abstract Crystal-structure electrides and molecular electrides are ionic compounds where the anionic part is constituted by independent and isolated electrons. This paper summarizes the history of these compounds, from their postulation to the state of the art. The most important events that have prompted the progress in the research of these compounds are also reviewed.
