Opcions i formes de reagrupament familiar de les persones immigrants: el paper de les administracions locals

Abstract

Over the past several years there has been an intense influx of foreign-born workers to the towns of the province of Barcelona. This situation has led to the high number family reunification processes that we are witnessing today, which consists to a great extent in the restructuring of family units, a logical consequence to the initial settling processes. This article presents the results of different studies related to the role and competences of local authorities in the reunification process, as well as some data on the social and demographic profile of regrouping applicants and the family members involved. The article is supplemented with a number of first-person accounts related to the principle difficulties faced in the regrouping process and their assessment of it.
