Abstract This paper explores the history of the use of potash as a fertilizer, from its early applications when it was still extracted from plant ash, to the introduction of chemical fertilizers and the discovery of mineral potash in the salt mines of Stassfurt, Alsace and Catalonia. This study also analyzes the research, testing and dissemination undertaken by the German syndicate Kalisyndikat and the Spanish company Minas de Potasa de Súria in the aim to promote the widespread use of potash fertilizers.Keywords: fertilizer, ash, potash, chemical, Kalisyndikat, Minas de Potasa de Súria.
