THE ORCHARD OF THE SAKYA TASHI LING BUDDHIST MONASTERY. PARC NATURAL DEL GARRAF, 2010 Authors Mònica Gómez Ferrero Keywords: orchard, Permaculture, Buddhism, Garraf, natural agriculture, analysis, design. Abstract This project stems from a collaboration agreement between the Sakya Tashi Ling Buddhist Foundation and the ICTA (Institute of Environmental Science and Technology) of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and is part of the Sakya Tashi Ling Buddhist Monastery Management Plan (Parc Natural del Garraf, December 2008) which proposes, for the period between 2010-2012, the design and execution of an orchard as indicated in: “2.1.2 Establishment of horticultural activities based on Permaculture criteria” (pg. 87). The aim of this project is therefore to make a first approach to soil and element conditions, as well as the first laboratory analysis, in order to detect the project’s strong and weak points and to make proposals to optimize the existing resources according to Permaculture principles. An initial design map is produced. This project is part of a wider project called the “Medinat Project” currently under construction, and which pertains to the Delos initiative, which is part of the WCPA (World Commission on Protected Areas) work group of the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature), combining a more scientific approach to nature with a more spiritual one. Keywords: orchard, Permaculture, Buddhism, Garraf, natural agriculture, analysis, design.
