Un mètode per a la generalització automatitzada de mapes de sòls Authors Iris Frigolé i Vilaró Abstract Generalisation of detailed geographical databases may be necessary when dealing with huge amounts of data. Automation of generalisation processes is interesting mainly because it increases the consistency of the data sets at different levels of generalisation. In the present paper, a method for the automatic generalisation of a detailed soil geographical database is presented. It is based on geographic information abstraction operations, which involve re-structuring the thematic database and have both thematic and geometric effects on the resulting soil map. The operations used are class generalisation (use of higher hierarchy classes) and aggregation (building composite objects), which are supported by a classification hierarchy, Soil Taxonomy (SSS, 1975; SSS, 1990). The proposed methodology was implemented using a SQL programme and a vector GIS and was tested on a sheet of the Soil Map of Catalonia 1:25.000. Downloads Download data is not yet available.
