Sánchez Abstract The final results of a program devoted to the introduction of foreing varieties of alfalfa are presented. Apparently the most suitable varieties for the mild zones of Catalonia have been obtained in California. Nevertheles differences in yield between local and foreing varieties are only important during the first year of growing. So, the substitution of local varieties seems only advisable in cases of very intensive culture.
