Toxicitat d'algunes sílices amorfes precipitades per a "Sitophilus zeamais" Motschulsky (Coleoptera, Curculionidae) Authors Ignacio Ribera Joan Isart Sabi José J. Llerena Abstract We have studied the effect of several precipitated amorphous silicas, alone or with attractants (honey) or preservatives (propionic acid), against Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky, 1855 reared in common white rice for domestic use. Doses of 0.5, 0.74 and 1 kg/t, have been tested, comparing them with a commercial insecticide made of diatomaceous earth and an invert sugar (an attractant). Although being a preliminary assay, it seems that one of the silicas tested has a greater effectivity of the silica in the highest dose tested, and the insecticidal effect depends on the general state, the age of the adults and the conditions in which they have been reared. Results also seem to indicate that the action mechanism of the silicas is not exclusively contact. No clear effect has been detected on the larval development of the insects.
