The study day was divided into three parts. In the first part, the current state of research in plant pathology in Catalonia was analysed by means of a survey addressed to researchers and academics at research centres and universities in Catalonia, and the future lines of action required by Catalonia were also sketched out in this section. In the second part, the evolution of diseases in a scenario of climate change and globalisation was debated, while in the third part a round table dealt with the evolution of disease control systems. It was concluded that it is necessary to expand the scope of research on plant pathology, which is currently concentrated on some very specific crops, and to activate research groups and collaboration among them in order to develop new technological tools and to offer solutions to the productive sector with a view to solving the many problems that it faces today.
