Abstract This paper summarizes the historical and territorial evolution of irrigated land in Catalonia. It seeks to look more closely at the vicissitudes and peculiarities of the land under irrigation in this region up to the beginning of the 21st century, considering for each period the most significant features of this land as well as the factors explaining its expansion and its possible limitations or obstacles.
