Abstract

The circular bioeconomy could represent part of the alternative to linear capitalism and to the blind alley of sustainable growth insofar as it will be able to prioritize a local approach, a paradigm shift led by degrowth and the prevalence of political criteria over exclusively economic considerations. In response to the reticence of free market supporters, it is interesting to reread one of Keynes’s essays in which it is argued that another way is possible: “It should not be a matter of tearing up roots but of slowly training a plant to grow in a different direction” (Keynes, 1933, p. 758).
