Abstract

The agri-food cooperatives of Catalonia are a business model dating back over one hundred years in many cases. This paper reviews their origins and the background of the Catalan Federation of Agri-food Cooperatives (FCAC), an organisation that groups and represents them. It also looks at the genesis and development of the Framework Plan for agricultural cooperativism in Catalonia and the main indicators of what agricultural cooperatives in the country represent, based on the data given by FCAC in its socio-economic yearbook.
