Abstract

Since the mid 19th century, gardening has formed part of daily life in the Catalan society, in the form of public and private gardens; art and horticulture and flower events; through associations, organizations and art, technical training schools. Given that this heritage is unfortunately largely unknown, the group Jardins i Jardiners: Art, Ciència i Ofici als Països Catalans (Gardens and Gardeners: Art, Science and the Trade in the Catalan Countries), which belongs to the Gardening and Landscaping Department of the ICEA (Catalan Institution for Agricultural Studies), has set out to bring it to light, preserve it and spread word of it.
