Abstract

In this article we characterize the didactic implications of the ‘curricular change’ for school chemistry in Chile. We refer to the subject of Science for Citizenship, with the purpose of justifying our perspective of a «Citizen Chemistry». We try to answer: i) what chemistry do we expect students to learn with this new subject; ii) what classroom strategies would be more appropriate for this new view of science, and iii) what challenges are posed for the training of chemistry teachers? Finally, we put forward some proposals that can promote quality learning in chemistry teaching in Chile.
