Abstract

The approach to the Professional Selection Courses for Teachers through the written press offers us a complementary source of information to take into account when studying this phenomenon: one more of the important reform policies undertaken by the Second Spanish Republic in the field of education. The aim of the research we present here is to find out what the echo of these professional selection processes was in Castelló. By means of a systematic search of the news items on education published in the Heraldo de Castellón, we have managed to find 296 which directly refer to these courses. Thanks to the establishment of a categorisation of the news items and the analysis of their content, the results show how the course held between 1931 and 1932 was treated in this medium, starting with the process of the call for applications, continuing with the development of the courses in the city of Castelló, and ending with the claims of the trainees who did not pass, and with the placement in schools of those who did pass, in 1934.
