200 school songs before the Spanish Civil War in Majorca Authors Miquel Jaume Campaner Institut d'Estudis Catalans Keywords: music education, school song, children’s song, nursery rhyme, folk song. Abstract The repertoire of songs available to Majorcan teachers for the purpose of teaching their students before the Spanish Civil War was quite extensive and varied. Without claiming completeness, we present a catalogue of 200 songs of which evidence exists that they were performed by schoolchildren at some occasion, or at least they could be sung with high probability by them because they were included in publications or textbooks that were widely distributed in schools. Our research is framed within the historiography of music education only as a contribution of materials that can serve in the future for its study and analysis from a musical, literary, ideological and didactic point of view.Key words: music education, school song, children’s song, nursery rhyme, folk song.
