Resumen

This article explores the reception and the literary effects of Noucentisme (an early nineteenth-century Catalan cultural-political movement) in Sabadell between 1910 and 1923. During the second decade of the twentieth century, the Noucentisme movement spreads from Barcelona to the so called «secondary cities». Sabadell, due to its demographic, economic and cultural importance, plays a crucial role in this. Reception of the movement is made possible by young writers who, via the Diari de Sabadell and in close connection with the masterminds behind Noucentisme in Cap-i-Casal, disseminate its ideology, aesthetics and imagery. This article surveys the factors contributing to this period, as well as the role of the participants, and focuses on the prospects and limitations of this «Primer Grup del Diari» which precedes Trabal, Oliver and Obiol's Grup de Sabadell and on its ideology and discourse, and its literary legacy.
