Abstract

The history of modern editions of Ramon Llull's works begins in Majorca in 1859, when Jeroni Rosselló published an extensive initial anthology, entitled Obras poéticas. Rosselló's aim was largely to vindicate the literary figure of Llull and present it as a model for contemporary writers. He was also responsible for beginning publication of other work by Llull in instalments. It was for the purpose of fulfilling this task that the Comissió Editora Lul·liana, presided by Antoni M. Alcover, was set up. The first volumes of the edition of the Obres Originals of Ramon Llull (1906-1950), which were much more important from a philological point of view than the earlier publications, appeared under the direction of Mateu Obrador. Later, Salvador Galmés took over, and he continued the work even after the dissolution of the Comissió Editora.
